Indigeneity: Honouring heart, mind, body and spirit Research Cluster
Indigeneity refers to Indigenous peoples and their knowledge systems. This research cluster seeks to understand the wholistic dimensions of Indigeneity and its possibilities for improving and transforming Indigenous education. Research topics include: place-based knowing, relational ontology, traditional ecology, identity, culture, and language. Wholism in this research cluster refers to spiritual, emotional, physical, and intellectual human development, influenced by the full scope of relationships.
Our scholarly work is also informed by our education and research relationships with Indigenous peoples around the world. Indigenous knowledge (IK) systems shape the social, cultural, and economic life of Indigenous communities. IK also contributes to meaningful relationships between social and natural worlds. Representation of Indigeneity ranges from artistic, theatrical, oral, literate, digital and musical expressions.
EDST promotes the development and understanding of Indigenous methodologies based on Indigenous knowledge. The EDST Indigeneity research cluster is concerned about issues that continually confront Indigenous peoples. These include:
