The Department of Educational Studies, Faculty of Education, UBC, invites applications for a fulltime Instructor without review (non-tenure stream) Educational Leadership position with a limited term of up to three years in Educational Administration and Leadership (EDAL) in Indigenous Education with a start date of July 1, 2017. The criteria for this appointment is the same as the level of Instructor I (see Article 3.02 in the Collective Agreement). This appointment is governed by the University’s Policy #42 and as such, the maximum term for this appointment is three years.
The Department of Educational Studies is a multidisciplinary department with teaching and research commitments to both undergraduate and graduate programs in the Faculty of Education; it enrolls a large number of master’s and doctoral students. Current areas of focus are Adult Education, Educational Administration and Leadership; Higher Education; Indigenous Education; and Society, Culture and Politics in Education. UBC’s Faculty of Education is committed to the teaching and advancement of Indigenous Education, offering both graduate and undergraduate programs.
Applicants will have an earned doctoral degree educational administration and leadership with expertise in Indigenous Education, ideally with experience in Canadian schools; and demonstrated experience coordinating, administering, and teaching in post-secondary programs connected to teacher education and/or Indigenous education. Aside from maintaining an excellent record of teaching, supervision, educational leadership, and service, it is expected that the successful candidate will continue to grow and develop the Faculty’s strong relationships with local communities and districts and liaising with First Nations. The successful applicant will provide leadership to, and work with Department faculty to incorporate Indigenous perspectives into EDAL courses and cohorts, and advise students in the program. Preference will therefore be given to applicants with the following qualifications: provide evidence of significant expertise in, and show a strong commitment to, educational leadership development in Indigenous education, familiarity with Indigenous educational policy and leadership contexts, and experience as educational practitioner and leader in Indigenous K-12 contexts. In the Faculty of Education, a full-time Instructor without review carries an annual workload of 24 credits.
