Transfer of Learning in Online Learning

This exploratory study examines aspects of student experiences both during an online applications course in the University of British Columbia’s Master of Educational Technology (MET) programme, and subsequent to having completed the course in the realm of professional educational practice. Transfer of learning (Caffarella, 2002) related to specific learning activities, a learning community-centered/community of practice course structure, and the overall course design are explored.

Dr. John P Egan is Director and Senior Lecturer in the Learning Technology Unit in the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences in New Zealand. He’s designed, delivered and managed numerous face-to-face, online and blended courses and programs at universities in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. His research interests including learning technologies, blended and online learning, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and HIV prevention, treatment and care.
