The history of Adult Education in India began pre-independence and achieved prominence in the post independence phase. Each five year plan included adult education programmes and under the XI five year plan, a mission on literacy known as Saakshar Bharat began. This mission emphasized adult education as an important aspect of achieving the goal of a literate India. The seminar would highlight on the literacy scenario in India, education policies and programs, and how adult education contributes towards the holistic development of marginalized communities in India.

 

Dr Bani BoraDr. Bora has a PhD (2012) from University of Delhi (Empowerment of Women through Gender Resource Centres in Delhi) and obtained her law degree (1999) from the U. of Delhi.  She is currently a Senior Fellow at the International Institute of Adult and Lifelong Education. She has many years of experience establishing academic and research based linkages between Students, Community Learning Centres and NGO/Corporate Sector.
