Successful MA Defense

Hearty congratulations to Jasmine Dares who treated us to a masterful defence of her MA thesis, “Poetry Out of Poison:” Exploring Rap Music as Critical Pedagogy on the afternoon of Thursday, August 22nd.  Delivered in her soft spoken, self-assured style, her summary and responses to questions gave us hope in the possibility of hip-hop in general and conscious rap in particular as a form of critical pedagogy.  Many thanks to UBC external, Stephen Petrina and committee member Don Krug for their rigorous engagement with Jasmine’s work.

Jasmine, you did your supervisor and EDST proud.  With all best wishes for the future…..
