Black History Month 2023

February is Black History Month. This celebration offers us “an opportunity for a focused, intentional and elevated reflection and recognition of Black history and achievement – and the many historical and contemporary contributions of Black Canadians, Black British Columbians and Black students, faculty and staff at UBC.”

UBC featured a program of events organized along  a range of activities and events. See also featured UBC events during February.

The Vancouver Public Library (VPL), Downtown, offers an additional range of crucial activities and resources, including film screenings, resources, and relevant fiction books.

Please note all particularly a panel entitled Building Black British Columbia With Social Media, featuring Professor Handel Wright (CCIE & EDST, UBC), Community Organizer Debbie Forbes, and SFU student in Communications and Media Studies, Balquees Jama. The panel will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, 6:30-8:00PM PST at the Central Library (350 West Georgia St., Vancouver).

All activities are free and open to the wider public. Some events require RSVP.
