Esraa Al-Muftah is a PhD Student in Educational studies at the University of British Columbia. Her research interests include gender and higher education policies. For her doctoral research she hopes to investigate the ways in which international organizations have played a role in the development of national universities in Arab Gulf States. More importantly she hopes to unpack how these developments in higher education intersect with notions of citizenship and gender, and what that entails for knowledge generation in the region. Esraa earned her M.A. in Sociology and Education with a concentration in Educational Policy from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2014. Prior to that she completed her B.A. in Psychology with a Diploma in Special Education from the American University of Beirut in 2011.
