The Department of Educational Studies invites applications for Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA) for the Winter Session 2020-21 courses in the B.Ed. program.

 

Winter Term 1 – 3.0 credits – September 7 to December 17, 2022 – On campus

EDST 401/001 – Mondays & Wednesdays, 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM

EDST 401/003 – Mondays & Wednesdays, 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM

EDST 401/008 – Mondays & Wednesdays, 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM

EDST 401/010 – Mondays & Wednesdays, 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM (French Language)

EDST 401/102 – Tuesdays, 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM

EDST 401/103 – Mondays, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM

EDST 401/104 – Mondays, 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM

EDST 401/107 – Wednesdays, 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM

EDST 401/109 – Wednesdays, 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM

EDST 401/110 – Wednesdays, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

 

Winter Term 2 – 1.0 credit – February 14 to March 18, 2022 – On campus

EDST 403/001 – Wednesdays, 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM – 2 positions

EDST 403/002 – Fridays, 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM – 2 positions

 

Winter Term 2 – 3.0 credits – January 4 to April 7, 2022 (ALE Program) – On campus

ADHE 330/022 – Tuesdays, 1-4 PM

 

Duties:

Tasks for these positions will include; attending planning meetings; assisting the instructor with the preparation and distribution of materials, maintaining class records, library research related to the course, leading discussion groups, grading assignments, making class presentations, and/or other tasks involved in course preparation and delivery as assigned by the instructor.

 

Salary: $33.14-$34.44/hour per the CUPE 2278 Salary Scale Approximately 63 hours per section for 3.0 credit courses, and 20 hours per section for 1.0 credit courses.

Changes to the classification system for Teaching Assistants takes effect September 1, 2020.

Graduate Teaching Assistant 1 (GTA 1): A GTA 1 is a graduate student who has completed two (2) years’ service as a graduate student teaching assistant – $34.44 per hour.

Graduate Teaching Assistant 2 (GTA 2): A GTA 2 is a graduate student with less than two (2) years’ service as a graduate student teaching assistant – $33.14 per hour.

Qualifications:

At minimum, candidates must have advanced training and/or be enrolled in a relevant master’s degree or doctoral degree. Excellent communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively is also required.

 

Eligibility:

To be eligible for a Graduate Teaching Assistant position, applicants must be registered as a student at UBC.

The Hiring Committee will be assigning students to selected sections, therefore, you need not specify which section that you prefer to be in.
