INSTRUCTOR POSITION, Summer Session 2023
The Department of Educational Studies has an opening for an instructor to teach the following graduate course in Summer Term 2B – July 24 to August 11, 2023
EDST 552/971 – School Law – UBC Campus – Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Introduction to basic legal concepts and terminology. Students develop an awareness of the statute law and case law that pertains to education in BC. They focus on the information needed for legal action, but not on detailed legal rules. Topics include rights, special education, liability for accidents, crime, and copyright.
To be eligible to teach this course, applicants must hold a minimum of LLB degree with practical legal experience or a doctoral degree in a relevant field. Applicants should have experience in the K-12 school system. They should be familiar with the systems structure and services, with the various stakeholder groups and with authorities involved in the provision of education in British Columbia.
This course is in the Educational Administration and Leadership M.Ed. Program. Many students will be elementary, middle, or secondary teachers considering careers in school and district administrative positions.
Course instructor duties will include some or all of the following: teaching, preparation and involvement in seminars, lectures, discussion periods and tutorials; marking assignments and exams; holding regular office hours; academic counseling of students during office hours; exam invigilation duties; reporting grades and attending orientation meetings as well as follow up sessions where applicable.
