Digital Technology in Immigrant Training and Learning
Research Assistant Needed
Applications are invited for two research assistants to support with the research project that focuses on the use of digital technology in immigrant training and learning.
This research project is funded by the Edith Lando Virtual Learning Centre at the University of British Columbia. The project focuses on investigating and documenting the use of digital technologies in supporting immigrant learning in British Columbia. Through document analysis and interviews, we aim to evaluate the effectiveness of digital technologies, pedagogies, and programing practices in improving language proficiency and other integration goals from the perspectives of the educators and immigrants.
The RA will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Kashif Raza, the Project Director, with support from Dr. Hongxia Shan.
The tasks may include the following but not limited to this list:
- Conduct a desk search and help create a typology of digital technologies, pedagogies, and programs in immigrant training and learning in the context of British Columbia
- Help identify pedagogical approaches and programming principles in the use of digital technologies in immigrant training and learning
- Help identify and interview educators and immigrant trainees that are part of immigrant training and learning programs
- Contribute to data analysis
- Complete other research-related tasks as needed
- Prepare draft reports for review
Qualifications:
The following skills and experiences are desirable:
- Prior knowledge of digital pedagogies, technologies, and programming in adult teaching and learning
- Knowledge of immigrant settlement agencies and the services they provide to adult immigrants
- Experience conducting interviews and performing content analysis
- Highly organized
- Strong written and oral communication skills
The position will involve, on average, 20 hours of work per month at an hourly rate of $28-30, depending on the level of program. It will start in November 2024 and end in April 2025.
