Colloquium Coordinator
Call for Applications
The Doctoral Colloquium is a student-led initiative in the Department of Educational Studies (EDST) which meets monthly to present, share, and discuss the current research in which doctoral students and candidates in the Department, as well as students and candidates affiliated with the Department, are involved. The aim of the Doctoral Colloquium is to provide doctoral students and candidates the opportunity to present the current status of their research; and, to introduce doctoral students and candidates to work done by members of different cohorts.
Role
The candidate for the role of Colloquium Coordinator is someone expected to:
- Plan, design, communicate, and coordinate all logistical and advertising aspects of the Colloquium’s sessions in collaboration with EDST administrative staff;
- Ensure a relaxed, supportive, and constructive atmosphere, within the context of meaningful discussions on the presenters’ work from fellow students, faculty, and staff;
- Foster collegial and convivial relationships and more robust understandings of the research done by students in the Department;
- Host each Colloquium session in a manner which supports the presenter, as well as engages with attendees to create a constructive and engaging dialogue around the presentation; Produce summaries of each presenters’ work, summaries of the session to be published in the EDST Blog;
- Report on the Colloquium to both the GAA Team, and the Department as the need arises; and,
- Mentor 1-2 early career doctoral students or candidates as potential future Colloquium Coordinators, in this way maintaining organizational knowledge and legacy.
Eligibility
The Colloquium Coordinator must be:
- An active, full-time doctoral student or candidate in EDST or a doctoral student or candidate affiliated with EDST.
- To be ‘affiliated’ with EDST, doctoral students or candidates must have at least one supervisor who is a faculty member in EDST.
Selection Process:
Submission for the role of Colloquium Coordinator should be sent to the Administrative Manager by email edst-jobs.educ@ubc.ca. Applications will be reviewed by the current GAA Team according to the requirements laid out in the relevant Terms of Reference.
Remuneration:
The Colloquium Coordinator is a paid position, equivalent of 10 hours per month at $30 per hour, for the duration of an academic year from August 1 to June 30th, for a total duration not extending over two academic years. Pay for this role cannot be considered as part of the coordinator’s funding package.
