These sessions are for EDD (and others) doctoral students. The goal is to create a space/time for participants to focus on planning, thinking, reading, and writing their dissertations. Students work on various stages including proposal development, reading relevant material, writing field notes and reflective journals, analyzing data, preparing chapters, responding to feedback, and preparing for final defense. Doctoral students face numerous demands on their time through family, work, and community engagement and can feel isolated and disconnected. These sessions provide a guilt- and apology-free structure and a supportive writing community, helping students reconnect and return to their research passions and desires. We explore the dissertation process, a non-linear and iterative journey of hills and valleys. Participants attend when they can, joining whenever it works for their schedules during the 3 hours sessions or on those days/weeks that work for them. Each session begins with a check-in followed by 3-4 writing times of about 40 minutes during which video and audio are turned off. After each writing block, there is 5 minute break.  The sessions close with a check-out.

“These writing sessions with a group of my colleagues have been an invaluable source of energy bringing me back into the writing process. It’s a safe community where I can reveal what was bothering me and obtain non-judgmental feedback”. Natalia Bussard

Each three-hour block, beginning with a check-in, gets my mind in gear. Then we work, stretch, work some more. Mining gold from my tears. Our closing chat propels me on, eagerly awaiting the next chapter, on this journey with my peers. If you’re sitting on the fence, unsure if these are for you, let my words whisper in your ear…This time has been a gift of conversation, community, and inspiration, without which, I would not be here.” Alannah Willians
