EDST Alumni Journeys

We hosted our inaugural EDST Alumni Journeys talk featuring alumnus, Keith Dormond, PhD’21, who shared his personal experiences (struggles) as a man of African descent working at the VPD. He shared his career path and how/why he gravitated toward social services type work, particularly as it relates to domestic violence and how meaningful it was to not only be a police officer but one who’s work was centered around providing supports to both the victims and perpetrator. Now as a faculty member of Department of Social Services at Langara College, Dr. Dormond shares his knowledge and passion with the next generation of social workers.

At the event, Keith was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for Contributions to Educational Studies.

Thank you to everyone who attended – we look forward to hosting you at our next program.

About:

Our alumni come many different walks of life from all across the globe but what do folks do once they’ve completed their degree? For this series we will be inviting EDST alumni with unique careers in different fields/industries to speak to recently graduated alumni (or ‘young alumni’).

For our inaugural event Keith Dormond, PhD’21, who until late last year was a Detective for the Vancouver Police Department. He will share his career path both during his time at UBC and his life after graduation. He will share his experiences with grappling with post-graduation, issues related to jobs, family, career; put simply, general life after graduation and aha moments.

Please join us for a casual conversation with Dr. Dormond followed by a networking reception with coffee and light snacks.
