Educational Studies: Indigenous Graduate Academic Assistant

Time Period: Oct 1, 2025 – July 31, 2026

Total hours: 60 hours (10 months x 6 hours per month)

Jo-ann Archibald Q’um Q’um Xiiem, Indigenous scholar and Educational Studies Emeritus Professor, is leading a new project “Educational Studies and the UBC Emeritus College: Working Together.” The project is multi-faceted and at a beginning phase. An Indigenous Graduate Academic Assistant will assist in the following ways:

  1. Communication with Educational Studies emeriti members
  2. Assist with organizing research and educational workshops and events
  3. Assist with organizing an Indigenous faculty mentoring program
  4. Document various meetings, events and projects through digital and other mediums

Minimum Qualifications:

-Educational Studies Indigenous graduate student currently enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program

-Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews and direct experience with Indigenous communities and/or organizations in Canada

-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

-Ability to tailor information to the interests of Educational Studies emeritus members, current faculty, and graduate students.

-Experience with writing and posting material on web sites and other digital media
