You are warmly invited to a screening of The Student (2016, directed by Kirill Serebrennikov), a provocative and dramatic story exploring the escalating conflict between a student and a teacher. Set against the backdrop of a school in Russia, the film offers a stark and timely reflection on the dynamics of power, ideology, and resistance in contemporary societies and helps illuminate the role of education.
The event will begin with a brief introduction by visiting doctoral researcher Ivan Zamotkin from the University of Oulu, Finland. After the screening, there will be an open discussion, which can continue in a more informal setting afterward.
Catering for this event was graciously provided by the Society, Culture, and Politics in Education program.
