DESCRIPTION: HSE/RHÉ is an established, SSHRC-funded, peer-reviewed journal edited since 2021 by Professor Jason Ellis in the Department of Educational Studies at UBC.

The journal seeks applicants for one paid graduate student internship.

CONDITIONS: The paid intern will receive an hourly wage $30. There will be a total of sixty hours for this position, approximately 5 hours/month.

TERM: 1 January 2026 – 31 August 2026. (With possibility of renewal for a second, 1-year term.)

NATURE OF THE WORK: The paid intern will perform administrative work (ex. correspondence, database creation and maintenance, etc.), research other journals’ publication standards and policies, draft journal policies in consultation with the editor, promote the journal in scholarly networks, assist the managing editor with peer review tasks, copy-edit journal materials in English and French, and will prepare a report on their work during the year for submission to the EDST Head’s Advisory Committee (HAC).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Be enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program in the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia. (Required.)
  • A background in history (e.g. B.A., M.A. or other degree or diploma, major or minor concentration, in History). (Would be an asset, but is not required. Applicants with a background in any social science or humanities field, or in communications or another field relevant to journal publication, are urged to apply.)

Skills:

  • Ability to think and work independently, while following directions and meeting deadlines. (Required.)
  • Attention to detail. (Required.)
  • Ability or potential to copy edit journal articles, reviews, etc. in English and French. (Required.)
  • Knowledge of Open Journal Systems (OJS) software. (Would be an asset, but is not required.)
  • Knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition. (Would be an asset, but is not required.)
