Patricia (Patty) Hambler is Nehiyaw on her father’s side, with her family connections in Kelly Lake, BC and Horselake, AB. Patty is a Student Affairs leader with over twenty-five years of experience within higher education. Currently the Director of Student Affairs & Services at Douglas, she provides leadership to a range of student support programs including Indigenous Student Services, Counselling Services, Accessibility Services, and Student Life. Patty is a lifelong learner and educator with expertise in leadership of successful communities of practice, curriculum development, staff development, training, and facilitation. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Certificate of Liberal Arts from Simon Fraser University, as well as a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Guidance Studies and a Masters of Education Degree from UBC. As an Urban Indigenous woman, Patty has a deep appreciation for and understanding of principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and reconciliation and is committed to thoughtful decision-making and advocacy in her role as a leader in higher education. From 2022 to 2024, Patty served as the President of the Canadian Association of Student Affairs & Services (CACUSS). Her commitment to the Student Affairs field is evidenced by her longstanding service commitment to CACUSS and her involvement in the development and implementation of the Okanagan Charter: An International Charter for Health Promoting Universities and Colleges.
