Ricardo (Ricky) has been in the educational field for 22 years. After working as a classroom teacher for 16 years in his home country, Ecuador, he felt that he could do more for education from an administrative level. As a Senior Educational Administrator in the private sector, he oversees educational programs and makes sure they comply with all regulations and quality standards. Ricky is a passionate educator, and he strongly believes in relationships to create connections that will build a more cohesive society. He loves volunteering and is currently doing online tutoring at KIP Canada (Kids with Incarcerated Parents). His goal is to continue engaging in leadership settings that will allow him to help others become a better version of themselves. That is where true leadership lies, he believes.

Ricardo’s Story

What gives you meaning and fulfillment in your work?

Helping newcomers thrive in a different world. I experienced myself cultural adaptation by engaging in an ongoing process of unlearning and re-learning what was part of my world until then. Facilitating that process for others makes my job a highly gratifying experience.

What advice would you give to your past self?

Do it all as you are planning to. The mistakes you make will fortify your spirit and guide your way.

What advice would you give to EDST students trying to make the most of their time in grad school?

This is a lifetime opportunity to establish relationships and make connections. Volunteering and other chances to get involved will prove to be valuable in your career.
